Pirates’ Starling Marte jersey giveaway goes away after PED suspension
The Pirates have canceled their planned Starling Marte replica jersey giveaway scheduled for July 2 following the outfielder’s drug suspension, the team announced Thursday.
Children under the age of 14 who attend the game against the Giants that day will still get a jersey, though the team has yet to announce the player.
We decided that it would not be appropriate to provide the Marte alternate jersey on the originally scheduled day while Starling is on the restricted list, Pirates spokesman Brian Warecki said in a statement, via the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette .
The Angels have spent almost four years trying to decide whether to renegotiate the lease and work to renovate Angel Stadium, play out the lease, or build a new ballpark.
But Moreno’s efforts to build a new stadium in nearby Tustin fell through when the city declined to fund the project. Now, there’s not enough time to find another stadium site, secure funding and have the stadium ready for play by the 2020 season.
Angel Stadium is the fourth-oldest stadium in Major League Baseball, behind Fenway Park, which opened in 1912, Wrigley Field (1914) and Dodger Stadium (1962). While those stadiums are on the bucket list for most baseball fans, few would say the same about Angel Stadium.
